Yes! It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for. I’ve promised you more “haunted” blogs, and here we are! I couldn’t be more excited to be writing this blog and sharing it with you all because we actually caught some pretty compelling evidence (not always the case when visiting haunted locations). Let me know what you think!
Edinburgh Manor is a large abandoned building owned by Cindy. I discovered this reportedly haunted location after searching Google for places Ghost Adventures had investigated and filmed. For anyone who has watched a Ghost Adventures episode, it’s quite obvious that they do not waste time investigating places that don’t prove themselves to be truly haunted. Our guide, who asked to stay anonymous, took us for a very informative and relaxed day tour. The tour was a perfect balance between property history and paranormal experiences. The tour was about 1.5 hours long for only $10.00 a person with the opportunity to explore the building on your own afterwards. Audio recording and pictures were encouraged during the tour which, in my experience, does not happen often!
Our guide explained how, prior to the construction of Edinburgh Manor in 1910, the property once supported a building used as a poor farm, a place where homeless people were brought to after being “arrested” for living on the streets. These citizens would be provided with food and housing in return for their labor. The poor farm operated from 1850-1910 with over 80 deaths recorded during that time before it was destroyed and rebuilt into the Edinburgh Manor which operated from 1910-2010 as an insane asylum housing the mentally ill and disabled. Our guide explained how the building has shifted his beliefs from a skeptic to someone who has had experiences that he is unable to explain rationally. From disembodied voices to full apparitions, Edinburgh Manor has proven to the owners and visitors that there is something beyond this realm.
During the tour, Gina and I had an audio recorder rolling. I was also taking pictures throughout the building to see if I could capture anything abnormal. As many who have passed through here before, we were not disappointed by the results! We caught FIVE INCREDIBLY CLEAR EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomenon), TWO unexplained noises (piano playing & drum playing) and THIRTY-NINE instances of radio-frequency-type static. We are attempting to make sense of the static by researching and reaching out to other paranormal teams in reference to equipment interference. After reviewing the photos I took, there appears to be several unexplained light anomalies that were not visible to the naked eye. In the rooms where these anomalies appear, I took several pictures in a row. Despite the photographs being taken less than a second apart without moving the camera, the anomalies were not present in every photo, ruling out any glare, reflection, or other easily explainable light interference. Finally, I captured 3 pictures that show Gina in some sort of distorted manner. The distortions could be caused due to her moving; however, she was moving very slowly when these photos were taken. I originally began taking those pictures of her because she expressed that she felt as if she was being followed. All of the “evidence” photographs can be found at the end of this post. They are unedited.
Here are the 5 amazing EVPs with captions of what we believe is being said (BEST HEARD WITH HEAD PHONES):
At 00:08, we hear a throaty male voice saying “You did what”. ^^
At 00:04, we hear a male voice say “town”. ^^
At 00:05, we hear a male voice laughing. ^^
At 00:09, we hear a female voice complete his sentence by saying “I was walking”. ^^
At 00:05, we hear a male voice whispering, “Hey, come back here,” almost at the same time as the tour guide says “back here”. Then at 00:08, we think that same whispering voice says, “Come back here now.” Amazingly, I was actually leaving a room when this was captured! It’s like I was being told to stay in the room.
Here are the 2 unexplained noises captured:
We hear a piano playing at 00:10. Mind you, we had JUST walked into the building (main floor), and the piano they have is in the basement and doesn’t work. The piano sound is so clear in the EVP, and Cindy just confirmed that the piano once sat in the very room where we captured the tune before it was moved to the basement! ^^
From 00:03-00:11, we hear the beat of a drum. We did not hear this with our naked ears at the time. ^^
Here is one example of the static/interference we captured a total of 39 times.
Light Anomaly #1. In the second photo, you can see two streaks of light that do not appear in the first photo. One is near the upper left corner of the door, and the other is to the right of the door.
Light Anomaly #2. In the second photo, you can see a streak of light, very faintly, that you cannot see in the first photo. The streak of light is in the bottom center of the second photo.
Light Anomaly #3. In the second photo, you can see a streak of light that does not appear in the first photo. The streak of light is in the upper center of the second photo.
Distortion #1: Gina’s Face
Distortion: Gina’s right leg appears almost invisible
I can’t make any absolute conclusions when it comes to the photographs, but the EVPs, in my opinion, are indisputable evidence of something paranormal lurking within the Edinburgh Manor. Whether you’re a believer or skeptic (or both!) I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments as the evidence we captured at Edinburgh Manor in Iowa is, I think, pretty compelling! Do you see what we see? Can you hear what we hear? Do you think something different is being said? Let me know!
